The anatomical and histological features of a tooth play a role in the formation of cavities. Teeth with grooves and indented areas decay more easily, as these recesses accumulate more food debris and bacteria.
Crowded teeth, lacking normal interdental (proximal) contact points, decay more easily because food debris accumulates in these areas. Tooth extraction is also an "indirect" cavity-accelerating factor. When a tooth is removed from the dental arch, the teeth in contact with it shift toward the gap. This disrupts the optimal contact points of those teeth, creating areas that retain food (retentive areas) and indirectly leading to cavity formation.
