Cavities are usually perceived as holes accompanied by dark discolouration. Although it is a preventable disease, very few people in the world go through life without experiencing tooth decay.
Bacterial plaque formed by bacteria in the mouth can turn leftover sugary and starchy food into acid. These acids dissolve the mineral structure of teeth, damaging the enamel and eventually starting the cavity — what dentists call a "cavitation."
Since cavities form when sugary and starchy foods meet bacteria, everyone is at some risk. However, those whose diet has a very high proportion of carbohydrates and sugar, especially if their water also has a low fluoride content, are at much greater risk of decay. Although saliva forms a natural defence mechanism against the acid produced by bacterial plaque, it cannot prevent cavities on its own. Diseases or medications that reduce saliva flow and volume also accelerate cavity formation. This is why dentists often recommend sugar-free chewing gum, as it increases saliva flow.
Yes. 1-Brushing teeth after breakfast and before going to bed at night, and using dental floss every day, is the most effective method. Since food debris accumulates most in the pits on the chewing surfaces of teeth and in the areas where teeth touch each other, toothbrushes with a small head should be chosen. The inner surfaces, outer surfaces, chewing surfaces of the teeth and the top of the tongue should be brushed, and dental floss should be used between teeth. Brushes should have medium-hard or soft bristles and should be replaced at regular intervals. Brush bristles should not be worn out and should be stored in a way that does not carry bacteria. A toothbrush should never be shared with anyone else. A fluoride toothpaste should be used while brushing, taking advantage of fluoride's role in preventing cavities. Fluoride mouthwashes, which give a feeling of freshness and cleanliness while also eliminating bad breath, can also be used alongside fluoride toothpaste.
2-Another precaution is trying to consume sugary foods with main meals and trying not to eat anything between meals.
3-Visiting the dentist at regular intervals is the best way to prevent a cavity or catch it early. In addition, in cases of teeth sensitive to hot and cold, painful teeth, or chalky-coloured early cavities, brown discolourations and pits, seeing a dentist without delay will change the course of treatment and reduce its difficulty.
