Laminate Veneer

Laminate Veneer

Laminate veneer applications are, in short, leaf-thin shells bonded to the outer surface of the tooth, mostly for aesthetic purposes. If the patient has no pre-existing sensitivity, numbing the teeth is not even necessary. They are made from porcelain or composite material.

Because they are light-transmitting, it is impossible to tell them apart from a natural tooth; they go unnoticed. This way, less tooth reduction is required to achieve an aesthetic appearance. After a laminate application, extra care must be taken with oral hygiene, especially cleaning between teeth. Very hard food should not be bitten with a mouth fitted with laminates, and bad habits that put a strain on the laminates (such as nail-biting) should be given up.

Designing a smile takes at most 3-4 days. However, after the smile design is completed, it can take 3-4 weeks for the lips to adapt to the new appearance. Certain lip exercises and reading are recommended during the adaptation period. For people who are not happy with the appearance of their teeth, a copy of their teeth can be taken and the design worked out on a model. In other words, before any intervention is made to the teeth at all, the changes to be made can be shown to the person.

In which situations is it applied?

For discolouration; in advanced antibiotic, fluoride and similar stains where methods such as bleaching do not give results, and in hereditary structural and colour defects

2. Closing gaps between teeth

3. Restoring broken or worn teeth, especially front teeth

4. Correcting old fillings whose colour and structure have deteriorated

5. Correcting the shape of crowded and crooked teeth to a certain degree

6. On long, poor-looking teeth with receded gums

7. Restoring the aesthetics of a smile line disrupted by congenitally missing or extra teeth

8. Achieving an ideal smile relationship in cases of proportional deviations in the tooth-gum-lip relationship

9. It can be applied to people who are not happy with the appearance of their teeth.

Composite Laminate

– Can be completed in a single session

– Almost no tooth reduction is required

– Composite laminates bond to the tooth using special materials that can penetrate tooth tissue

– Although a natural-looking match with the patient's own teeth is achieved at first, discolouration may occur over time depending on the foods consumed

– Discolouration that develops in composite laminates over time can be removed with simple polishing by the dentist

– Although the material is the same, it is definitely not equivalent to a composite filling

– More expensive than a composite filling, cheaper than a porcelain crown

Porcelain Laminate

– A multi-session procedure

– 0.3–0.7 mm of tooth is reduced

– Temporary plastic laminates, made in the shape and length decided during smile design, are bonded to the tooth. These protect the teeth until the porcelain laminates arrive

– At the same time, these temporaries serve as a 3D model for any necessary adjustments. The teeth's harmony with the face is checked, and with the necessary reduction and additions the ideal smile aesthetic suited to the face is chosen. Once the patient's approval is obtained, the porcelain laminate is prepared in the laboratory according to this model

– Bonded to the tooth with very strong biocompatible materials

– Porcelain laminates do not discolour afterwards

– Although the material is the same, it is definitely not equivalent to a porcelain crown

– More expensive than a porcelain crown
